Espresso ratio calculator
Turn dose and yield into a clear brew ratio.
Check the ratio from a shot you just pulled, calculate a target yield from your dose, or work backward from the beverage yield you want.
18 g dose → 36 g yield
36 g yield ÷ 18 g dose = 2.0, so the brew ratio is 1:2.

What espresso brew ratio means
On Measured Bloom, espresso brew ratio is beverage yield divided by dry coffee dose. A shot made with 18 g of coffee and 36 g of espresso has a 1:2 ratio.
Use grams, not shot volume
Crema makes espresso volume change from shot to shot, so this calculator uses mass for both dose and yield. A scale makes the recipe easier to repeat and easier to compare with the next shot.
Ratio is only one clue
The same 1:2 ratio can taste very different depending on grind size, shot time, coffee, puck preparation, temperature, and other variables. Ratio tells you the relationship between dose and beverage yield; it does not diagnose extraction by itself.
