Grinder Setting Finder · Beta

Your grinder has numbers. Start with one that actually belongs to your grinder.

Choose your grinder and brew method. We will give you a transparent starting zone, tell you how strong the evidence is, and suggest one small move if the cup is off.

More models will be added only when the starting data is defensible.
Available methods change with the selected grinder.

Calibration matters.

Why this tool exists

People often search for a grinder number because “medium-fine” is hard to translate into a real dial. The problem is that grinder scales are not standardized, and even the same model can shift with calibration, burr choice, dose, brewer, and coffee. This tool uses model-specific ranges and shows how trustworthy each range is instead of pretending every number is exact.

What the evidence labels mean

Brand-supported means the manufacturer has published settings or brew recipes that support the starting zone. Brand + community combines a manufacturer grind chart with a narrower practical zone repeatedly reported by users. Community-informed means the model has a documented dial and calibration system, but the brew-method range mainly comes from repeated user reports and should be treated more cautiously.

Measured Bloom rule: use the model number as a starting point, not a finish line. Once the first brew is repeatable, move the grinder a small amount and keep the other variables steady.

Grinder setting FAQ

Why can two people use very different settings on the same grinder?

Calibration, burr seasoning, coffee, dose, filter, brewer, water, and pouring technique can all shift the useful setting. The number is a starting point, not a universal recipe.

Should I copy a grinder setting from a recipe exactly?

Use it as a first test only. Brew once, taste, and move a small amount finer if the cup is sour or weak, or coarser if it is bitter, dry, or stalling.

Why are some grinders marked community-informed?

For those models, the manufacturer documents calibration or the dial system but does not publish enough brew-method settings to justify a precise range. Measured Bloom therefore labels community-derived starting zones clearly instead of presenting them as manufacturer specifications.
